Towards comparative evaluations of user-adaptive software systems

چکیده
Currently there are many user-adaptive systems across different application types including education, business and information systems. However, evaluating user-adaptive systems is still a challenging research issue and a difficult task. This is because of the lack of widely accepted evaluation methods, data and the difficulty on generalizing the application areas. In order to provide comparative and convincing arguments that the adaptation works and it is valuable to the users, it is vital to ensure a scientific process and to provide common evaluation mechanisms, methods and metrics. Taking inspiration from similar research communities and building upon current evaluation approaches, a question arises as to whether it is possible to create such a community and develop a common evaluation mechanism of useradaptive systems. In this paper, we indicate how we can move towards comparative evaluations of user-adaptive systems.

Introduction: Evaluations of a system of information, without analyzing its users understand is impossible. User satisfaction is as key factor of success information system. It is essential to consider information system context (user, task, equipment and environment), user type and user experience in quality ergonomic computerized information systems. Therefore in this study HIS quality ergono...
متن کاملEvaluation of High-Performance Computing Software
The absence of unbiased and up to date comparative evaluations of high-performance computing software complicates a user's search for the appropriate software package. The National HPCC Software Exchange (NHSE) is attacking this problem using an approach that includes independent evaluations of software, incorporation of author and user feedback into the evaluations, and Web access to the evalu...
متن کاملTowards Modeling and Analysis of Power Consumption of Self-Adaptive Software Systems in Palladio
Architecture-level evaluations of Palladio currently lack support for the analysis of the power efficiency of software systems and the effect of power management techniques on other quality characteristics. This neglects that the power consumption of software systems constitutes a substantial proportion of their total cost of ownership. Currently, reasoning on the influence of design decisions ...
متن کاملSocial Computing and Usability Metrics: Toward User- Centered and Adaptive Interaction Agents
In this paper we propose to include two up-to-date separate concepts, namely social computing and usability metrics, in intelligent interaction agents to enhance a user-centered, adaptive human-computer interaction (HCI). Social computing refers to the application of sociological understanding to the design of interactive systems. We introduce accountability as an idea essential to social compu...
متن کاملEvaluating Adaptive Systems and Applications is often Nonsense
In the research field of User Modeling, Adaptation and Personalization there is a strong focus on comparative evaluation. In this discussion paper we as ourselves when it makes sense to perform such evaluation and also when it is complete nonsense. We argue that especially for adaptive systems (and not applications) the typical comparitive evaluations with groups of end-users make no sense. We ...
